HOME GROWN CULTURE

Director Perry Henzell (The Harder They Come) said, “there is no impact you will ever have greater than showing a society itself on the screen for the first time”. It is through documentaries that societies, cultures and subcultures are presented to a wider audience and explored. In the case of JISOE, the film went beyond its initial intention of documenting Melbourne’s graffiti scene and exposed a whole Australian underclass, hidden in plain view of the public. STICKY CARPET documented the vibrant and world-class musical underground that flourishes throughout Melbourne. These documents are a testament to the importance of what is happening below society’s surface.
