The 56th Melbourne International Film Festival is just around the corner. Always an exciting time of year and we’re especially proud to announce two very special late-night screenings of the original ‘midnight movies’ – Alejandro Jodorowsky’s El Topo and The Holy Mountain.
These long unavailable classics have finally been officially released for the first time. When Jodorowsky released the quasi-western head-trip El Topo in 1970 it kicked off the midnight movies phenomenon. It caught the attention of John Lennon, who, through his manager Allen Klien funding Jodorowsky’s next project – the surreal masterpiece The Holy Mountain.
El Topo - 11.15pm, Friday, 3 August at the Forum Theatre
The Holy Mountain - 11pm, Friday, 10 August at the Capitol Theatre
Siren has bought brand new 35mm prints of these celluloid acid tabs and quite frankly, we can’t to see them on the big screen. Check out the Film Festival's website for more info.
Further screenings around the country will be coming. Sign-up to our mailing list to be kept in the loop.
DVD box set coming out in September – full details coming soon.
