Koen Mortier, director of the stylish and intense Ex Drummer, is currently working on his next film - 22nd May. Details are almost non-existent, though Twitch has an excerpt from the Rotterdam Cinemart submission. From the looks of it the film is shaping up to be some sort of disaster film.
This will be a highly anticipated film. Mortier showed the world his considerable talent with Ex Drummer and by the looks of it things are only going to get better. The grim tale of three aspiring small-town punks and the manipulative writer they get to drum for them.
Having achieved critical acclaim at film festivals around the world, Ex Drummer screened at both the Melbourne and Sydney International Film Festivals last year. Audiences were either enthralled and in awe, or repulsed and offended. A film this confrontational always gets a reaction.
The soundtrack is perfectly matched to the films grim punk aesthetic, with contributions from Mogwai, Isis and Lightning Bolt, to name a few.
Ex Drummer is released on DVD through Siren Visual in March. More information on the film and trailer at www.exdrummer.com.
