Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's homage to the trashy drive-in and "grindhouse" double features of the 1970s is being released as it was intended – as a double-bill complete with mock trailers, missing reels and print wear.
Grindhouse is getting a limited run at both the Chauvel Cinema in Sydney and The Astor Theatre in Melbourne.
After a poor box office showing on Easter weekend last year Grindhouse was pulled apart and re-released as two separate films – Death Proof and Planet Terror. Only Death Proof got a theatrical release in Australia.
Grindhouse is a homage to the trash, sleaze and gore films of the 60’s and 70’s, pioneered by the likes of Hercshell Gordon Lewis and David F. Friedman – the inventors of the gore genre. Collections of both directors are available now through Siren.
The screenings are both off 35mm prints and are exactly as they were meant to be.
Sydney dates – 17-23 January

Melbourne session – 20-30 March
