Claire Denis' confronting 2001 film Trouble Every Day was featured on the Trash and Treasure segment of ABC Radio National's MovieTime. Katie O'Neil, a Victorian College of the Arts graduate, waded in to defend Denis' vampiric and cannibalistic tale with producer Jason Di Rosso.
Trouble Every Day explores the intersection of the carnal desires of sex and violence through the affair of Shane (Vincent Gallo) and Core (Bearice Dalle). Their mutual desire for carnal violence suggests a deep-seated bond which must be consolidated. Soon the two enter a realm of experience far beyond anything they have known.
Raw, poetic, powerful and dangerous, this extraordinary film explores the dark side of desire in a way that no other film before it ever dared.
Trouble Every Day is out now and available here.
