LIONEL NOMINATED FOR 2010 ATOM AWARD

07 Sep 2010

Eddie Martin's documentary on Lionel Rose continues it's streak of accolade with a nomination in this year's Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) awards. Established in 1982, the organisation was set up by members of the Australian education sector to recognise outstanding works in film, television and animation within Australia and New Zealand.

Lionel tells the story of an important figure in Australian sporting history - Lionel Rose, the first Aboriginal to win a World Class boxing title. Eddie Martin retraces Rose's life from his birthplace in Warragul, Victoria through to his massive success in the 1960s and subsequent problems in the 1970s and 80s. Last year we released a special 2 disc collection containing the complete documentary and a bonus disc featuring original news articles, interviews and rare boxing footage. Lionel was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2009 AFI awards and has been screened on SBS.
