Kei, an illegal Chinese immigrant, and Mario, an infamous Brazilian hoodlum, team up to flee Japan in this unashamedly over-the-top yakuza tale. On their way to a new life Kei and Mario will get caught up in a cocaine deal gone wrong, a maniac ping-pong playing Chinese mob boss, a vodka swilling Russian, and the racial tensions that bubble below the surface of Japanese society.

Like a frenetic manga, Miike’s furiously paced yakuza flick delivers over the top action that flirts with the ridiculous whilst remaining confronting. A pastiche of styles and popular movie references City of Lost Souls features all out gun battles, incomparable explosions, and even a Matrix inspired chicken fight.
